Minnesota: Listing of Free Government Phone Providers
When this site was first created, the Lifeline program provided free government phones along with free cell service or, if you prefer, you could qualify for a discount on your monthly landline cost. However, fast forward a few years, and a few things have changed. Now, with the creation of the Federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), eligible individuals/households may receive either a free or discounted device (i.e., tablet, laptop, or computer) along with free service.
The plans vary from company to company as do the benefits. If you enroll in Lifeline only, you are eligible for one tier of service. However, if you enroll in Lifeline and ACP, you qualify for broader benefits. The benefits include, but are not limited to a free or deeply discounted device and increased data limits.
Below is a listing of service providers that participate in Lifeline and/or ACP in the state of Minnesota:
Keep in mind that this list is by no means an exhaustive list of all the free and discounted Lifeline phone providers in the state of Minnesota, but it is a start. As more providers become available, this list will be updated.
Did you know?: Of the over half a million eligible households that would benefit from signing up for Lifeline benefits, only 13% have actually signed up. That's right! According to the Universal Service Administrative Co., 87% of eligible households are still struggling to pay wireless and internet bills when they wouldn't have to if they signed up for Lifeline benefits. Please share this information with anyone you know who would benefit from applying for Lifeline.
