Free Government Phones

Kinetic by Windstream - Affordable Connectivity Plans

Kinetic by WindstreamKinetic by Windstream does not provide free government phones, but what it does provide is discounted internet service. Kinetic participates in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). As such they offer up to a $30 discount on their internet service plans. That discount goes up to $75 for eligible individuals living on Qualified tribal lands.

Kinetic Internet Plans

All of Kinetic’s internet plans do not require annual contracts. They also do not impose data caps or overage charges. They have three internet plans of which two are fiber optic. There's the Kinetic Internet plan which gives up to 100 Mbps. Then there's the Kinetic Fiber at 500 Mbps. And finally, the Kinetic Fiber Gig which offers 1000 Mbps. Be advised, however, that fiber is only available in select areas.

Pricing for the plans is not readily accessible on their website. To see how much each plan costs, you’ve got to enter your address on the Check Availability page. If they provide service at your address, then select the internet speed desired to find out the pricing.

Currently, in February 2023, they have a promotion of a $100 Kinetic Visa prepaid card for new customers. They offer different promotions from time to time so check out their Offer Conditions page.

Kinetic by Windstream Service Areas

According to their website, Kinetic services rural areas in 18 states including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas.

Unfortunately, as I do not live in an area serviced by Kinetic and am not privy to an address that is, I’m unable to provide information about plan pricing.

Affordable Connectivity Program

No matter what Kinetic charges for its internet plans, if you qualify for ACP benefits, you can reduce the pricing by up to $30. Or, if you live on qualified Tribal Lands, you may reduce the pricing even more by up to $75. To enroll in the ACP program you must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Have a household income of 200% or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or
  2. Participate in one of the following government programs:
    • Lifeline
    • Federal Public Housing/Section 8SNAP/ Food Stamps

After you meet the criteria, go over to the National Verifier website and apply. Approval usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes. Having those documents handy makes the application process easier.
